The Worst Offenders

Who burns the most CO₂ with Claude Code? On this board, first place is not a compliment.

Why this exists

Every prompt to Claude burns electrons in a data centre, which (depending on grid mix) burns kerosene, coal or, increasingly, wind. This leaderboard turns the joke into a number. Self-reported via the Claude Usage Tracker: download, run locally, hit "Burn dem Trees".

What you're seeing: aggregated GPU-hour and CO₂ totals per submitter, computed server-side from H100 TDP (700 W) × grid average (0.4 kg CO₂/kWh) × tree absorption (22 kg CO₂/year/tree). Numbers are estimates. The leaderboard ranks by submitted CO₂. Climb at your own existential cost. Flight hours assume 180 kg CO₂ per passenger-hour (225 g per passenger-kilometre at 800 km/h).

Coming soon: settle the bill

Right now this board only tells you what you owe. The next step is letting you do something about it: pay off your trees straight from here, through certified reforestation and carbon removal, with the receipts published so you can check that the money actually landed somewhere.

Privacy & data handling

Server: Alfahosting GmbH, Germany. Lawful basis: GDPR Art. 6(1)(a) consent. We store: pseudonym (if provided), aggregated GPU/CO₂ stats, daily/weekly/monthly/yearly buckets, optionally hourly buckets for last 24h (only if user ticks consent), salted SHA-256 hash of IP (for rate-limiting; IP itself never stored).

We never store: prompts, project paths, file paths, model names, sessions, conversation logs, raw token streams, plain IPs, or device fingerprints.

You can erase your entry any time via the "Remove me" button in the local tracker (uses the deletion token returned at submission). Auto-prune kicks in once 10,000 rows are reached; it keeps the 10,000 highest-CO₂ entries and drops the rest, so the smallest burners go first, not the oldest. Pseudonyms are first-come-first-served and bound to your IP-hash; impersonation attempts get rejected.
